Flush(ing) with funds: RM800mil allocated for school toilet repairs and maintenance

KUALA LUMPUR: Close to RM800mil was allocated for toilet maintenance and repairs in schools and institutions under the Education Ministry in the last two years, the Dewan Rakyat was told.

Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh (pic) said RM654.29mil was allocated last year for workers in 8,354 government schools and institutions.

This year, he said, RM134.33mil was allocated, with RM124.73mil of that disbursed to date.

“We will always ensure allocations are distributed fairly to all Education Ministry schools regardless if they are fully government or government-aided,” he told Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Ind-Tanjong Karang) on Tuesday (Oct 22).

Separately, Wong said government schools and government-aided schools were allocated RM70,000 each for maintenance and repairs.

“Allocations for government-aided schools have also been (disbursed) in September.

“MPs can monitor the status of ongoing projects,” he said in response to a supplementary question by Lim Lip Eng (PH-Kepong).
