Kedah MB’s special officer denied assaulting night market traders

ALOR SETAR: The special officer to Kedah Menteri Besar, Salmy Anas Ahmad, better known as Cikgu Anas, denied the allegation that he was rude to a trader representative as allegedly seen in a TikTok on Sunday (Oct 20).

Salmy Anas said that he initially went to the night market site in Jalan Pegawai at around 11.30 pm to investigate the problem involving traders there, reported Sinar Harian.

He said he wanted to discuss the matter with the chief trader there, but two other individuals were in the area when he arrived.

"I informed him that I could not discuss the issue with unknown individuals to avoid it becoming political.

"So I got back in the car, when one of the individuals involved shouted repeatedly calling me to get down while recording a video.

"I then asked him to stop the video recording, and he asked me to discuss the matter elsewhere," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 22)

On Monday (Oct 21), the media reported that an official from the Kedah Chief Minister's Office was called to testify regarding an incident involving a public argument.

In a video that went viral on social media, it is said that there was a disagreement between the officers involved and members of the public in the area near the Jalan Pegawai night market site.

Kota Setar OCPD Asst Comm Siti Nor Salawati Saad confirmed receiving two reports from two men, aged 48 and 54, regarding the incident.
