STAR Media Group (SMG) is launching its first-ever ESG Summit to explore the critical need for fostering positive change in the quest for a sustainable future.

Dedicated to promoting sustainable development and fostering ESG integration in various sectors, this ESG Summit will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) from Nov 6 to 7.

Featuring an array of activities, the two-day conference brings together influential leaders, policymakers, investors and sustainability professionals to engage in insightful discussions, share best practices, and explore innovative solutions.

The ESG Summit empowers participants to pick up state-of-the-art techniques that can be drawn from the vast experience of the conference’s global speaker line-up and engage in thought-provoking panel discussions, keynote speeches, stream sessions and interactive networking pow wows, allowing for meaningful exchanges and collaborations.

Plenary sessions offer practical guidance to businesses on how they can navigate various business, regulatory and trade developments, such as carbon border adjustments and sustainable supply chains.

Attendees will be able to curate their own schedule with a choice of three streams over the two-day event.

Stream 1 will focus on governance and sustainable reporting, where leadership of a company board and top management is discussed to ensure the business is not exposed to reputational risks, financial risks, cybersecurity risks, among others.

Stream 2 will touch on economic security and value chain decarbonisation – managing and engaging talents to ensure low attrition rates, grow their skills and knowledge for a great career within a business, which in turn develops and strengthens one’s brand as a good employer.

Meanwhile, attendees interested in digital transformation can look forward to Stream 3, which emphasises on climate and sustainable innovation.

The summit will feature a keynote address on “From Vision to Action: Regional Implementation of NIMP 2030” by Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad along with a host of distinguished speakers from across the globe. They include:

His session will explore the strategic role of how these instruments are utilised to offset carbon emissions, support environmental goals, and enhance sustainability initiatives.

> Asia School of Business (ASB) senior lecturer Dr Pieter Stek will speak about “An Asean-wide Perspective on ESG Practices”. He will elaborate on the ESG landscape in Asean, key forces influencing it and delve into the significant differences at the national level as well as similarities due to Asean member states’ integration in global value chains and Asean intergovernmental cooperation.

> Capital Markets Malaysia Al Fadzriq Hamzah will touch on “Supporting the Advancement of ESG Among Malaysian SMEs”. His is set to share about the purpose and objectives of the SEDG for SMEs in supply chains; the importance of ESG disclosure for SMEs in supply chains; competitive advantages of early ESG adoption for SMEs; as well as an overview of the 15 basic SEDG disclosures.

> ESG BoardRoom head Tina Thomas will be giving two separate talks over the two-day conference, touching on “ESG Regulation and Compliance: Navigating the Evolving Landscape” and “Climate-Proofing Our Future: Adaptation and Sustainability in Critical Sectors”.

> Yayasan Hijau Malaysia (YHM) chief executive officer Dr Nurul Muiz Murad will share about “Community Programme Blueprint: Opportunity for ESG and Scope 3 Offset Disclosure and Reporting”.

He will delve into the YHM Community Programme Blueprint and how it aims to assess and measure impact of community based initiatives and programmes that leads to quantifying community carbon value that can be used by companies for ESG disclosure, reporting and Scope 3 Carbon Offset.

Besides the multitude of talks, the ESG Summit will feature an innovative showcase by exhibitors such as the Malaysia Forest Fund, Forestry Department of Peninsular Malaysia (JPSM), Climate Fresk Malaysia, Carbon Offset Zone, and more.
