A TOTAL of 152 illegal mat rempit were taken to a surau to attend a lecture following their arrest by the police, reported Sinar Harian.
The paper said the group, aged between 15 and 24, were picked up during Ops Samseng Jalanan organised by the Kuala Lumpur traffic police department on Saturday night.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said 68 motorcycles were seized during the operation.
He said the mat rempit were taken to perform subuh (dawn) prayers and listen to a talk on the dangers of illegal racing and the danger it poses to other road users.
He urged parents to monitor their children and ensure they were not be involved in unhealthy activities.

Salmi Md Noor, 59, from Kampung Tanjung Medan, Sungai Panjang in Sabak Bernam, said the “kenduri” (feast) was scheduled to be held this Saturday.
However, her compound was left with mud and dirt after her place was flooded.
“My marriage ceremony went on as usual, but there was no feast because of the flood.
“Many things were damaged, including the marriage gifts and my bed,” said the single mother of three children, who got married for the second time.
