KUALA LUMPUR: Some 13.8 million litres of subsidised diesel worth over RM31 million have been seized in anti-smuggling efforts between Jan and Oct 2024, the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry reported.
“Diesel misappropriation involved 1561 cases from 30,634 inspections under Ops Tiris 3.0,” minister Armizan Mohd Ali said in reply to Roy Angau Gingkoi (GPS - Lubok Antu) in Dewan Rakyat on Oct 23.
Six investigation papers were also opened under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLA).
Armizan also said that KPDN would chair a coordination meeting involving all enforcement agencies to strengthen efforts, particularly in areas along Sabah and Sarawak.
Agencies involved in curbing smuggling are the Immigration Department (JIM), Royal Malaysian Customs Department (Customs), Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis), Road Transport Department (JPJ), and the Health Ministry.
He welcomed suggestions to raise awareness about diesel smuggling to the local communities along the border with Indonesia so that they can help with community-level monitoring.
Additionally, he also said that the ministry is implementing digital enforcement to enhance the ministry's enforcement capabilities.
