RM788mil allocated for schools’ toilet upkeep


SOME RM788mil was allocated for toilet maintenance and repair works at Education Ministry schools and institutions between 2023 and 2024, the Dewan Rakyat was told.

Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh said RM654.29mil was allocated for this purpose last year, covering 8,354 government schools and Education Ministry institutions.

Of the 8,354, there were 8,306 government schools and 48 Education Ministry institutions.

This year alone, Wong said RM134.33mil was allocated for toilet maintenance and repair works at government-aided schools.He added that RM124.73mil has been disbursed as of this month.

“We will always ensure allocations are distributed fairly and accordingly to all Education Ministry schools regardless if they are government or government-aided schools,” he said in Parliament yesterday.

Wong was responding to a question by Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Ind-Tanjong Karang) who asked for updates on the matter.

Separately, Wong said all government schools and government-aided schools were allocated RM70,000 each for maintenance and repair works.

“Allocations for government-aided schools have also been channelled in September.

“MPs can also monitor the status of ongoing projects,” he said in response to a supplementary question by Lim Lip Eng (PH-Kepong).
