KOTA KINABALU: The public has been warned by the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department to refrain from sea and water-related activities due to the ongoing rainy season.
Acting director Farhan Sufyan Borhan said the caution comes amid a yellow alert for continuous rain across Sabah, urging residents, particularly those in flood-prone areas, to be vigilant.
"We need to be prepared for the weather changes that could lead to floods, falling trees, and other emergencies," he said in a statement.
Farhan added that in the last five days, the department has received 33 calls regarding fallen trees from a range of districts.
These include Kota Belud, Tuaran, Putatan, Penampang, Kunak, Papar, Keningau, and Kota Kinabalu, as well as Tambunan, Sandakan, Beluran, Tawau, Kudat, and Kuala Penyu.
He mentioned that there have been no reports of serious injuries or fatalities due to these incidents.
"With the rainy season upon us, the Fire Department, in collaboration with other agencies, is fully prepared to handle any eventualities," he said.
