Five nabbed over gold investment scam involving involving RM48.5mil in losses


PETALING JAYA: Five individuals, one a wanted suspect, have been arrested by Bukit Aman over a gold investment scam.

Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Comm Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said that one of the main suspects, a woman, was arrested on Tuesday (Oct 22) at the Penang International Airport.

She is believed to be involved in the PA Jewellery and Paddy Jewellery scams, he said in a statement on Wednesday (Oct 23).

"Also arrested were four individuals linked to the scam. The three men and one woman, aged from 29 to 38, were arrested in Kedah and Kuala Lumpur on Oct 21 and 22.

"The suspects have been remanded until Oct 25 to assist in investigations. As of now, 69 reports have been made against these scams, involving RM48.5mil in losses.

"Investigations showed that the scammers offered investment packages with returns based on gold prices. However, investors did not receive the promised profits," he said.
