Be alert for high waves, rain from Trami, says MetMalaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: A significant weather alert has been issued over the impact of Tropical Storm Trami that is currently heading towards Vietnam across the South China Sea.

In a statement on Thursday (Oct 24), the Meteorological Department said this will cause an increase in wind speeds across the region until next Monday (Oct 28), according to Astro Awani.

This situation, it said, could potentially bring continuous rain to western Sabah as well as the formation of squall lines in the northern and eastern coastal areas of the peninsula during this period.

"In light of this, MetMalaysia has issued a weather alert for continuous rain at a cautionary level for the state of Sabah and Labuan, effective until Friday (Oct 25).

"A warning for strong winds and rough seas for the South China Sea and Sulu Sea is also in effect until Thursday (Oct 27)," it said.

It was reported that at least 26 people had been killed in the Philippines after Trami caused widespread flooding and landslides.
