SELAYANG: The top management of Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB), including its CEO Datuk Nasiruddin Mohd Ali and his wife Datin Azura Md Yusof, was hauled to the Sessions Court here to face charges.

Nasiruddin, 65, and Azura, 57, were among 22 members of GISB, aged between 27 and 72, who were brought to the court to be charged yesterday.

Also charged was Mohammad Adib At-Tarmimi Asa’ari, 32, the son of Al-Arqam founder Ashaari Muhammad.

The group arrived at the court complex under heavy police guard.

According to the charge sheet, Nasiruddin is accused of being a member of an organised crime group, Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings, at a premises in Bandar Country Homes, Rawang, between October 2022 and Sept 11.

Clad in a grey jubah and black songkok, Nasiruddin nodded his head, signalling that he understood the charge after it was read out to him before Sessions Court judge Lailatul Zuraida Harron @ Harun.

The charge was framed under Section 130V (1) of the Penal Code, which carries imprisonment of between five and 20 years, upon conviction.

The other accused persons were all charged separately in the same court.

No plea was recorded as the case, under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma), is under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

Lailatul Zuraida did not allow bail at this stage.

She fixed Dec 23 for mention for the case to be transferred to the High Court.

All the accused were represented by lawyers Datuk Rosli Kamaruddin, Zaim Rosli, Dorina Abdullah, Boestamam Ahmad and M. Hafiz Zainal Abidin.

Deputy public prosecutors Datuk Razali Che Ani, Datuk Nazran Mohd Sham, Lina Hanini Ismail and Siti Hajar Mat Radzi appeared for the prosecution.

When met by the press later, Rosli said the defence would be submitting a representation to the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) to set aside the charges.

“Although the police have mentioned multiple Acts in their investigation, only one section has been used to press charges. We will make our case to the AGC, and the court will ultimately decide on the matter based on the evidence presented,” he said.Rosli also said some of the accused are elderly and they require medical attention after being in remand.

On Oct 10, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the top GISB leader was among 58 people re-arrested under Sosma.

He said since the launch of Ops Global in September, authorities have arrested 415 people and rescued 625 victims aged between two months and 28 years.

Comm Mohd Shuhaily said out of the 415 people detained, 273 have been granted bail, 37 released without conditions, 35 remain in custody, two have been handed over to the Kedah Islamic Religious Affairs Department, and one has been transferred to the Immigration Department for deportation.
