Key suspect in gold scam nabbed in Penang

PETALING JAYA: A key suspect connected to a high-profile gold investment scam has been arrested at the Penang International Airport upon her arrival from Dubai.

The arrest was confirmed by Bukit Aman’s Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Comm Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf.

The suspect is believed to be one of the main figures behind the PA Jewellery and Paddy Jewellery scams.

“Also arrested were four other individuals we believe have links to the scam. The three men and one woman, aged between 29 and 38, were arrested in Kedah and Kuala Lumpur on Oct 21 and 22.

“The suspects have been remanded until Oct 25 to assist in investigations. So far, 69 reports have been lodged, involving RM48.5mil in losses. “Investigations showed that the scammers offered five investment packages with different returns based on current gold prices. However, investors did not receive the promised profits,” he said in a statement yesterday.
