Take it outside, Deputy Speaker tells MPs duking it out over MAHB-GIP deal

KUALA LUMPUR: Take your squabbles outside the House, warns Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker Alice Lau after a war of words erupted during the afternoon debates.

This comes after Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin (PN-Putrajaya) challenged Howard Lee (PH-Ipoh Timor) to a debate over the sale of Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad (MAHB) shares to BlackRock Inc.

A visibly frustrated Lau then switched off their microphones and sternly ordered them to take things outside.

“If any of you want to challenge each other (to debates), do it outside. Not here,” warned Lau on Thursday (Oct 24).

When debating the Supply Bill 2025 earlier on Thursday, Radzi claimed MAHB was being “sold to BlackRock”.

Lee interjected saying that Radzi’s statement was misleading.

Radzi then said 30% of MAHB shares were being sold, with Lee arguing this meant 70% is still owned by Malaysia with the matter erupting into a shouting match.

Earlier this year, it was reported that GIP planned to buy a 30% stake in MAHB’s privatisation move.

GIP has since been acquired by BlackRock, a firm that is reported to have investments in Israel.

The deal has been heavily criticised by opposition politicians as Malaysia strongly supports Palestine.
