A DISAGREEMENT between a group of Brickfields small traders and the organisers of an upcoming Deepavali concert at the same site blew up into a confrontation, Makkal Osai reported.

Last Friday, several Deepavali stalls were removed to make way for a concert in the area, leading to an uproar from the stall owners. The traders held a peaceful protest in front of the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) building on Monday to submit a memorandum on the matter.

Meanwhile, concert organiser Thayalan Sribalan and his team held a press conference in Brickfields on Tuesday, claiming the concert would not disturb anyone. He said the concert would go on as the team planned to distribute free food to thousands of people and also provide aid to kids from orphanages and children’s homes.

The traders who had gathered at the press conference venue began voicing their objections. This then led to an argument between the two groups.

There were no untoward incidents, but the two groups could reach a compromise.
