Man nabbed for crashing car into schoolkid

IPOH: Police have arrested an unemployed man, who is believed to be mentally unstable, after he crashed his car into a secondary student at a school in Manjung near here.

Manjung OCPD Asst Comm Hasbullah Abd Rahman said the 47-year-old was arrested on Wednesday at about 6.30pm, about an hour after the incident in Taman Bintang.

“The suspect has been referred to Hospital Seri Manjung for treatment due to his condition and the case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.

“The 13-year-old girl suffered injuries to her left leg and is currently being treated at the same hospital,” he said in a statement yesterday.

ACP Hasbullah said before the incident, the suspect had driven his car into the school compound and knocked down the gate of a basketball court.

“He drove towards the school hall where a group of students were practising volleyball,” he said, adding that the man then crashed into the victim before fleeing.

Those with information about the incident are urged to contact investigating officer Insp Nur Munawara Ahmad at 011-1624 0391 or the district police station at 05-688 6222 to help with the investigation, he said.
