Marine cops seize fireworks worth RM1mil from KK house


KOTA KINABALU: Smuggled fireworks and firecrackers worth about RM1mil were seized in a raid on a house along Jalan Sepanggar here on Thursday (Oct 24).

Kota Kinabalu Marine Police operations headquarters commander Asst Supt Roslee Abd Rahman said the raid, under Ops Taring, was launched following intelligence gathered indicating suspicious activities on the premises.

ASP Roslee said the raiding team found a pile of boxes containing various types of firecrackers and fireworks such as 399 Happy Boom, Red Crackers (Cake), 1'36 Shot Celebration, Noise Tricker Single Bang and Happy Boo Dush 30.

"The total value of the seizure including tax amounts to RM1,038,945.60," he said on Friday (Oct 25).

He said the seized items were taken to the Marine Police base operations centre here for further investigations under the Customs Act 1967.

He added that it was illegal to sell or store fireworks without a licence, and a permit was also needed to import such items.

The house was unoccupied at the time of the raid.
