MELAKA: The reputation of Malaysia’s global aircraft composite component manufacturer, Composites Technology Research Malaysia Sdn Bhd (CTRM), based in Batu Berendam here continues to soar as it gains the trust of major global airlines, as well as Airbus and Boeing, for producing various aircraft components.

CTRM chief executive officer Shamsuddin Mohamed Yusof said the company’s real transformation began in 2013 when DRB-Hicom acquired the company, initiating numerous changes at various levels within and beyond the organisation.

As a result of this transformation, CTRM is now among the world’s top five composite structure manufacturers for Airbus, producing components for the A320/21 and A350 aircraft models.

“We have worked tirelessly to meet the high standards set by Airbus and Boeing in manufacturing their aircraft components as these two companies are known for their stringent quality and safety requirements.

“Therefore, having earned the trust of these industry giants, we are committed to maintaining it.

“This achievement reflects the dedication of our 2,200 employees, 99% of whom are locals.

“Our success has been recognised and we have received several awards from both national and international bodies,” he told Bernama.

CTRM now manufactures composite components for major commercial aircraft, comprising 14 aircraft models and one helicopter model.

“These components are supplied to three Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) across 32 aerostructure programmes, positioning CTRM as the sole manufacturer for most of the wing and nacelle components,” he added.

“Our hard work and dedication, especially in maintaining product quality, has resulted in CTRM winning the Prime Minister’s Award, the highest honour at the Industry Excellence Awards (AKI) 2024 in our first-ever participation and this is a testament to the company’s credibility,” he said.

Commenting on CTRM’s achievements at AKI, where it also won the Industry Excellence Award in the Manufacturing Sector (III), Shamsuddin said the awards boosted the morale of its factory employees.

Looking ahead, Shamsuddin said CTRM seeks to increase its production, in line with the Malaysian Aerospace Industry Blueprint 2030, which targets to generate RM55bil in aerospace sector revenues.

CTRM contributed nearly RM604mil, or 3.3% of the RM18.1bil in revenue for the Malaysian aerospace industry in 2023, creating 2,200 of the 28,000 jobs in the sector.

“We plan to continue to explore new technologies, particularly artificial intelligence (AI) and automation, to enhance operational efficiency while upgrading our facilities and equipment as we move towards digitalisation,” he added.
