Over 1,500 cops to be deployed during Deepavali celebrations in Johor

JOHOR BARU: More than 1,500 police officers and personnel will be on duty during Deepavali celebrations, says Johor police chief Comm Datuk M. Kumar.

He added that these officers and personnel would be stationed at known locations for traffic congestion including around Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) and Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB) Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQs) during the festive season.

“We are expecting high volume of traffic for the Deepavali celebrations on Thursday (Oct 31) especially at BSI and KSAB

“To ensure a smooth travel experience for everyone, a total of 1,534 officers and personnel will be deployed at strategic locations around Johor,” he added.

Comm Kumar said this when met after attending a walkabout at the Deepavali bazaar along Jalan Trus here on Saturday (Oct 26) evening.

He also advised road users travelling either before, during and after the Deepavali celebrations to always adhere to traffic rules and practise ethical driving at all times while on the road.

“While we are excited to celebrate the festival of lights, it's equally important for all of us to observe road rules for the safety and well-being of everyone," he added.

Comm Kumar also advised those returning to their hometowns for Deepavali or going for a short holiday to register their homes with the police.

He added that the police would safeguard their properties while they went away to celebrate the festive season without any worries or concern.

“There are two ways for the public to register their home address with the police. First is by using the volunteer smartphone patrol (VSP) app on their mobile phones.

“The second is by going to the nearest police station and filling up a form that is provided,” he said.
