Sibu cops hunt for motorcycle thieves after RM301,231 heist

SIBU: Police are currently searching for two men suspected of stealing RM301,231 from a car parked on Jalan Kampung Nyabor on Friday.

Sibu OCPD, Asst Comm Zulkipli Suhaili, said that they received a report from the victim on the same day at approximately 11:10am.

According to Zulkipli, two suspects on a motorcycle were involved in the theft.

"One of the suspects smashed the victim’s car window using a hard object before fleeing with a bag containing the money," he said in a statement on Saturday (Oct 26).

Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects followed the victim after he withdrew the money from a bank.

Upon parking, one of the suspects reportedly shattered the driver’s side window and took the bag placed on the front seat.

Efforts to track down the suspects are ongoing, aided by dashcam footage from the victim's vehicle, Zulkipli added.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 379/427 of the Penal Code for theft. If convicted, the suspects could face imprisonment, a fine, or both.

Zulkipli also advised the public to exercise caution when conducting transactions at banks and to avoid leaving valuables in plain view to prevent similar incidents.
