KUALA LUMPUR: Strong communication skills, analytical thinking and innovative ideas are among attractive qualities employers wish to see in jobseekers at the myStarJob Fair 2024.
Organised by Star Media Group (SMG), the two-day fair that ends today at the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre is an all-in-one hiring platform specially curated for employers and job hunters.
Social Security Organisation (Socso) deputy chief executive officer (operations) Azirruan Arifin advised jobseekers to be well-prepared when visiting potential employers.
“Candidates should display analytical skillsets and good communication skills,” he said at the event yesterday.
Azirruan said Socso aims to bridge the gap between job seekers and employers by leveraging career fairs to create direct engagement opportunities, starting with myStarJob Fair.
“Through MyFutureJobs (the national job matching portal), we are going to start working with the private sector to provide job opportunities for Malaysians.
“MyFutureJobs has achieved over 1.15 million job placements, highlighting its effectiveness in connecting individuals with employment opportunities and contributing to Malaysia’s economic stability and growth,” he added.
Aham Asset Management Bhd senior manager Ben Tee Beng Hock said his firm is looking for employees with good entrepreneurship skills and innovative mindsets.
“We are recruiting people with an open mindset and fresh ideas,” he said.
Jayasri M. Krishnan, a talent acquisition assistant manager at Qi Group Services, is looking for candidates with excellent communication skills.
“This is the first time we are taking part at myStarJob Fair, and we have received strong candidates that fit the company’s criteria.
“We look at how jobseekers present themselves. This can be shown through the way they communicate with us.
“As a global company, we offer jobseekers career growth and self-development,” she added.
Fresh graduates who wish to boost their employability can look out for the MyNext booth.
Its operations head Madhavan Balan Nair said the platform by Talent Corporation Malaysia Bhd was created to improve graduate employability.
He said fresh graduates enter the workforce at two levels, one of which is through internship.
“This is where our core focus is. We connect them to organisations that are developing their talent pipeline,” he said.
Madhavan said MyNext is also assisting women who have left the workforce to return and build their careers by organising programmes such as mentoring workshops and conventions.
There is also an initiative to help Armed Forces retirees aged between 30 and 42 to switch career paths, he added.
Electronic Engineering (Mechatronic) graduate Muhammad Helmi Roslan was given an insight into market needs and trends.
The 27-year-old said he managed to gain tips on interviewing skills and ways to present his best to potential employers.
“The fair is quite useful because I got to meet with the recruiters personally and they were more than happy to share information on what they seek in a candidate.
“There were positive responses from the companies I have visited. Hopefully, everything will turn out great,” he said.
The fair, which began yesterday, is hosting over 40 companies representing industries and sectors such as oil and gas, healthcare and finance.
Among the highlights is the job-matching initiative, which enables recruiters to conduct interviews with jobseekers at the event itself.
The sit-down interviews will be held with various companies during selected sessions.
Those interested can find out more at the job-matching counter at the venue.
The myStarJob Fair 2024 ends today. Admission is free.
