IPOH: PKR will continue to strengthen its ties with Umno and Barisan Nasional, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said this was among the issues discussed during the party’s political bureau and leadership council on Saturday night.

“So this is the direction that the party agreed upon.

“We feel that our (PKR) relationship with Umno and Barisan in the peninsular should be closer, and strengthened,” he said in his speech at the state PKR convention held at the Kinta Riverfront hotel here on Sunday (Oct 27).

Also present were Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming, PKR vice chairman Chang Lih Kang, Amanah vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa.

Anwar said the party should also focus on building the next generation.

He said there was a need to provide more space to the younger generation.

Anwar said among the youth and women’s wings, it was important to do so (give more space).

“So we must look at the possibility to expedite party elections.

“But it must not be done with the previous disorder and chaos, but must follow the regulations.

“We are looking at this, but the decision is to expedite the election," he said.

Anwar said he was of the view that the party elections must not be delayed because the general election was still far away.

“Is better to provide opportunities for the new generation to work alongside more senior members.

"The spirit of discussion, where members are allowed to express their views, is the way forward,” he added.
