IPOH: The Guan Gong Cultural Association has confirmed that all necessary procedures, including obtaining a police permit, were followed for their recent cultural parade in Teluk Intan.
President Soon Boon Hua also pointed out that the Jalur Gemilang was also present and was carried to lead the parade
"The Malaysia International Guan Gong Cultural Festival is an international cultural exchange event, not merely a religious activity, and should not be misinterpreted," he said in a statement on Monday (Oct 28).
He added that the festival enjoyed recognition from the Perak state government and was part of the state's October event calendar.
"It was approved by the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry and is officially featured in the Visit Perak 2024 promotional brochure, confirming its authenticity and official support," he noted.
Soon said that the representatives from China were particularly enthusiastic, marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China this year.
"Visitors from China were invited to participate in the Guan Gong cultural activities, reflecting the strong cultural ties and friendship between the two countries.
"The Guan Gong Cultural Festival serves as a bridge for international cultural exchange, holding deep symbolic meaning," he explained.
The incident involving 17 Chinese tourists being questioned, he added, not only impacted their experience but also briefly affected the positive relations between Malaysia and China.
