Clarify status of MACC probe into ex-S'gor rep for misusing party funds, Opposition MP urges

KUALA LUMPUR: The government must clarify the status of an ongoing investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) into a political leader accused of misusing party service centre funds for personal gain, says an Opposition MP.

Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi (Kuala Langat-PN) claimed that the leader, a former Selangor assemblyman, is currently serving as part of the Port Klang Authority board.

Ahmad Yunus also claimed that a report had been lodged with the MACC, alleging that the former state assemblyman had abused his power by using service centre funds for personal purposes.

“I have been informed that a report has been made to the MACC against a former Selangor assemblyman, accusing him of misusing service centre funds, even though these funds were not sourced from the government,” he said when debating the Supply Bill 2025 in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (Oct 28).

“I raise this issue not to interfere with internal affairs, but because the accused now holds a significant government position.

“As the board members of the Port Klang Authority are appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the public deserves to know the status of the investigation in the interest of transparency and integrity,” he said.

Ahmad Yunus urged the government to inform the public of the investigation’s progress, questioning whether the allegations held any merit and whether the Attorney General would be pursuing legal action.

“The public has a right to know if the accusations are substantiated and whether the Attorney General will proceed with prosecution, or if the allegations are baseless.

“The government has a responsibility to provide an explanation,” he said.
