KUALA LUMPUR: Local authorities, particularly Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and district councils nationwide, have been urged to install Deepavali decorations in areas with significant Indian communities.
MIC vice-president Datuk T. Murugiah said residents from several areas, including Batu 2½, Jalan Ipoh, and Jalan Kuil in Hilir Sentul, have expressed disappointment over the absence of Deepavali decorations in their neighbourhoods despite the approaching celebration.
He said these decorations bring joy to the community and serve as a symbol of togetherness, honouring the Indian community ahead of Deepavali on Thursday.
“Festive decorations also offer international tourists a glimpse into Malaysia’s rich cultural diversity, potentially boosting the tourism sector.
“I hope local authorities take swift action to make this Deepavali a vibrant and memorable celebration for the Indian community, reflecting Malaysia’s inclusive spirit,” he said. — Bernama
