A WOMAN in India who delivered a baby boy when Cyclone Dana was blasting the country has named her son after the storm, Makkal Osai reported. She was among more than 2,000 women who gave birth at that time.
Her family supported her decision. One relative said that while the entire family was worried about the storm, they are now delighted with the new arrival it brought.
Cyclone Dana wreaked havoc across the northeastern states of West Bengal and Odisha on Friday, with winds reaching 110kph.
The Odisha state government reported that 4,859 pregnant women were among those temporarily relocated and 2,201 delivered their babies as the storm surged, with 18 twins in the mix.
> A group of volunteers has been cleaning the Hindu cemetery in Ladang Bedford, Tanjung Sepat for the past six years, Makkal Osai also reported.
PR Elangovan, who helps organise the annual effort, said the descendants of the late Parthiban and Rukmani who are buried there have made this a Deepavali tradition.
They have been cleaning the 50 graves and 90 tombs at the cemetery to honour their ancestors and others who lived and died in the plantation, he said.
The group also organise pooja (prayers) and serve padayal (food offering to the ancestors).
