Cops dismantle syabu trafficking syndicate in Penang, arrest three

GEORGE TOWN: Police dismantled a syabu trafficking syndicate with the arrest of two men and a woman in three separate raids, seizing drugs worth RM640,000 in Butterworth and Bukit Mertajam.

Penang police chief Comm Datuk Hamzah Ahmad stated that the suspects, aged between 25 and 39, were detained by the Criminal Investigation Department from the state police headquarters, which conducted an organised crime operation on Monday (Oct 28) from 4pm to 2am.

"In the first raid, police apprehended two suspects, a man and a woman, in a parking lot in Butterworth where a blue bag containing drugs believed to be syabu was found in a transparent plastic package weighing about 1,036g," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 29).

Comm Hamzah said that, based on information from the suspects, police detained a man on the same day at a house in Bukit Mertajam.

The suspect then led police to another location in Butterworth, where they seized 18,964g in 18 transparent plastic packages.

Comm Hamzah noted that the syndicate is believed to have been active since early October and the drugs were intended for local distribution.

Police also confiscated a luxury car and jewellery items, with the total seizure amounting to RM65,686.
