M-cyclist who beat red light ditches bike, crosses river to evade cops

PETALING JAYA: A motorcyclist who beat a red light ditched his bike and helmet and crossed to river to evade police in pursuit.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Shahrulnizam Ja'afar said police on patrol had spotted a motorcyclist who ran through a red light in Bandar Utama at around 1.30am on Tuesday (Oct 29).

"They stopped the motorcycle but the suspect refused to cooperate and sped away into Jalan Masjid towards the Pekan Kayu Ara area," he said.

He said police gave chase but lost sight of him.

He said the suspect abandoned his motorcycle before escaping on foot, crossing a river in the process.

"The motorcycle was recovered and taken to the Damansara police station.

"Checks showed that the vehicle was registered to a female owner but it was not reported as stolen," he said, adding that efforts to trace the suspect are ongoing.
