PAS reps among five quizzed over Teluk Intan gathering, says Perak top cop


IPOH: The police have called up five men, including two PAS state assemblymen, to have their statements recorded over a gathering that was held at the Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said the five men were being investigated for the gathering that was held without notice.

Comm Azizi said the five individuals, including Perak PAS commissioner Razman Zakaria and Selinsing assemblyman Sallehuddin Abdullah, had their statements taken on Sunday (Oct 27) at about 10am.

"The case is being investigated under Section 9(1) of the Peaceful Assembly Act, for gathering and making public speeches without notifying the police, not for flying the Jalur Gemilang in public," he said in a press conference here on Tuesday (Oct 29).

"Once the investigation papers have been completed, these would be forwarded to Bukit Aman and the Attorney General for advice on the next course of actions.

"If there is a need to take more statements, we will take them," he said.

A "Fly the Jalur Gemilang at the Leaning Tower" gathering was reportedly held on Sunday.

This was following an incident whereby Chinese flags were waved by several individuals during a procession at the same location last Thursday (Oct 24).

Comm Azizi said about eight reports were lodged against the gathering.

He said between 300 and 400 people were in attendance during the event, whereby speeches were also made in public.
