OVER 80 talented musicians from Malaysia, Indonesia and China mesmerised the audience during the Gendang Sedunia – Hands International Drumming Festival Kaleidoscope 7 held in Kuala Lumpur recently, Kosmo! reported.
It was the seventh drum festival held at Zepp Kuala Lumpur, which brought together 88 drummers from the three countries.
An audience member identified only as Anis said it was the first time she had watched such performances, adding that she was fascinated by the harmony of rhythms displayed by each group.
She was particularly taken by a performance that combined the Malay rebana, Chinese gong and Sarawak engkeromong played simultaneously by a group from Malaysia that called itself Rhythm in Bronze.
The daily said the performance from Malaysia had the soft and swaying rhythm of the gamelan, while the engkeromong produced specific rhythms and notes.
As for the drum performance from Indonesia, the rhythm was more complex since there were up to 20 types of instruments played simultaneously such as drums, flutes, harpsichords and tambourines.

Yasmin said she just finished filming the fantasy comedy movie sequel Duyung: Legenda Aurora in Langkawi over 10 days.

Yasmin said Sha’arin would take care of the children when she was working.
Yasmin and Sha’arin, a former drummer of Blackrose, married in 2015 and divorced in 2021.
> Most of the people who send their children to welfare homes are single parents and drug addicts, or those from low-income families who could not afford to raise their children, Kosmo! reported.
A welfare home operator said every child was screened to determine their poverty level or if they faced being abandoned if they continued living with their guardians.
“If the mother or father receives a pension or otherwise has a fixed income, we will not accept their children,” the officer added.
