KOTA BARU: The fire at a collection site for recyclables on Jalan Padang Tembak in the Pengkalan Chepa Industrial Area here has been contained after nearly five days and is expected to be extinguished within the day.

Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone One head Khairul Ariffin Che Ramli said the extinguishing operation was at 95%.

He said two excavators from the owner of the company involved were also used in the firefighting operation.

"The operation continued today to put out the remaining 5% of the fire and the work to put it out completely is expected to be finished today," he said when contacted on Thursday (Oct 31).

Meanwhile, Kelantan Environment Department (DOE) deputy director Mohamad Zamzani Ibrahim said they would wait for a report from Bomba on the incident before taking further action.

The site for the collection of recyclables caught fire on Sunday (Oct 27), with 80% of it razed by 6pm that day.

Forty firemen were deployed to fight the blaze in five fire engines, accompanied by four water tankers. – Bernama
