KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has encouraged Malaysians to embrace the spirit of Deepavali as a beacon to light the nation’s path forward in the pursuit of a brighter, just future.
In a message celebrating the Festival of Lights the Prime Minister urged the nation to move from darkness to light and symbolise hope, progress and solidarity.
Addressing a diverse gathering at the Madani Deepavali Open House here on Thursday (Oct 31), Anwar noted the significance of Deepavali as more than just a festive occasion.
“Today, we celebrate together, with Malaysians from all walks of life and backgrounds, standing united in the spirit of Deepavali,” he said.

Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo and Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul.
Anwar described the festival as a time to rekindle the light of togetherness and shared aspirations, emphasising that the spirit of Deepavali should extend beyond celebration and reflect a deep, historical symbolism of overcoming adversity.
“Deepavali is a festival of lights, illuminating and replacing darkness. This journey from darkness into light speaks to all of us,” he said, underscoring the idea that Deepavali is an opportunity for reflection and renewal.
“There is a history here that all Malaysians should understand – a reminder that life is not merely about survival or daily sustenance but is enriched by the pursuit of collective wellbeing, justice, and a better future.”
Anwar also encouraged Malaysians to see Deepavali as an occasion to reinforce the ideals of mutual respect and compassion.
