Penang increases grant to Hindu Endowment Board to RM2mil

GEORGE TOWN: The state government will increase the annual grant allocation to the Penang Hindu Endowment Board (PHEB) next year, says Chow Kon Yeow.

In his Deepavali message on Thursday (Oct 31) the chief minister stated that the annual allocation would rise from RM1.5mil to RM2mil.

As of October 2024, 3,698 eligible students have received educational funding assistance amounting to approximately RM4.87mil.

Chow said that the annual grant allocation to PHEB is not limited to education; it also aims to support various special projects involving religious, medical and developmental aspects.

"With this support, we hope that the Indian community in Penang can continue to preserve their rich and vibrant cultural and religious heritage, adding to the beauty of communal life in Malaysia," he said.

"May the light of Deepavali continue to illuminate our journey toward achieving the Penang2030 Vision and Malaysia Madani, founded on principles of justice, democracy, and tolerance, ensuring that all plans and developments for the state are implemented inclusively without sidelining any community, including Hindu devotees throughout the state.

"Let us all make the most of Deepavali by spending quality time with our loved ones," he added. Chow expressed hope that the light of Deepavali this year will continue to brighten the lives of all communities in Penang.
