IPOH: Taiping Zoo & Night Safari (ZTNS) has announced the birth of a hippopotamus calf born to a mother named Lek on June 5.
According to a post on ZTNS’s Facebook page, Lek, aged 32, originally came from Bangkok Zoo, while the father, April, aged 22, was born at ZTNS.
"Lek previously gave birth to a hippopotamus calf named Atan in 2016. With this new birth, ZTNS now has four hippos,” the statement said.
ZTNS also celebrated the hatching of 16 Sulcata tortoise (Geochelone sulcata) hatchlings, marking a significant success for the species’ breeding efforts at ZTNS.
The statement added that all the hatchlings were currently in quarantine before being introduced to visitors. - Bernama
