Warisan still open to alliances with local parties in Sabah, says Shafie


KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan is still open to collaborating with like-minded local parties, according to Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

The Warisan president emphasised that any collaboration must align with the party's commitment to fighting for Sabah’s rights and autonomy.

He stated that there is no alternative agenda as the welfare and rights of Sabahans are the priority.

This statement follows predictions by some political analysts that Warisan may face the upcoming state elections alone, especially after Barisan Nasional expressed interest in working with Pakatan Harapan and possibly Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).

"Warisan believes that working with the right parties can strengthen Sabah’s position and voice regarding state rights," Shafie said.

He added that the right cooperation could form a stronger union to tackle challenges confronting the people of Sabah, particularly given the dynamic political landscape.

Sabah, Shafie noted, continues to face economic, health, and education-related issues that need immediate and comprehensive solutions.

"The people of Sabah deserve development comparable to other states, and it is our responsibility to deliver and implement improvements for future generations," Shafie said.

On Oct 27, Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced the party's finalised cooperation with Pakatan Harapan.

Previously, it was strongly anticipated that Warisan and Barisan would collaborate in the forthcoming state polls.
