Cops on track to demolish 2,000 squatter houses in KK

KOTA KINABALU: With just two months left in the year, the Kota Kinabalu police are confident of meeting their target of demolishing 2,000 squatter houses by year’s end.

Kota Kinabalu police chief Asst Comm Kasim Muda said they have already removed 709 illegal structures and have additional operations planned to address the remaining sites.

He said their efforts are focused on areas known for illegal immigrant settlements, which are often associated with drug trafficking, utility theft and other crimes.

“Our demolition efforts are concentrated in the Numbak, Sepanggar and Kayu Madang areas. We believe we can meet or even surpass the overall key performance index,” ACP Kasim said after attending the handover ceremony for new police station chief posts in Inanam, Luyang and Alamesra yesterday.

During the ceremony, retiring Sub-Insp Mohd Hadzir Mohd Yusof officially passed his duties to Sub-Insp Mohd Rashidi Nawawi, his successor in Inanam.

The Luyang station will now be led by Sjn Abang Roslan Abang Sharkawi, taking over from Sjn Mohd Rashidi.

Sjn Md Nazir Saidi will take over as chief of the Alamesra station.
