SHAH ALAM: The Royal Malaysian Customs Department has denied a viral report claiming that the Customs Director-General, Datuk Anis Rizana Mohd Zainudin, misused government funds for a recent vacation in Bangkok, Thailand.
Sinar Harian reported that the Customs Department clarified in a statement addressing these allegations that Anis Rizana travelled with her family on a business-class flight for a personal vacation.
The department emphasised that the accusations were baseless and defamatory, originating from an irresponsible party.
The statement further explained that Anis Rizana's two-day leave, on Oct 30 and Nov 1, 2024, was formally approved by the Treasury Chief Secretary through the HRMIS System, as per the Human Resource Services Circular regarding leave facilities.
The Customs DG’s application to travel abroad for personal reasons was also sanctioned, following General Circular Letter Number 3 of 2012, which outlines regulations for public officials' travel abroad for private matters.
The department made it clear that no departmental funds were used for flight costs, accommodation, or any other expenses related to this trip. Anis Rizana fully covered all costs incurred during this personal visit.
While in Bangkok, the Customs DG attended the International Boxing Championships to support the department's Adli Hafidz. He represented the country and achieved victory, bringing pride to the nation. Anis Rizana has consistently supported and encouraged department personnel in their pursuit of excellence.
The Customs Department hopes to resolve any confusion or unfounded speculation with this statement. The department urges everyone to focus on maintaining the security and stability of the country’s economy and to continue believing in the integrity and dedication demonstrated by the Customs DG.
The department said it is committed to addressing any forms of misinformation, including letters, emails, news, or false statements disseminated by irresponsible parties, to ensure the public's interests are protected. A police report has also been filed to safeguard the reputation of the Customs Department and its DG against these allegations.
The department also encourages the public to be more cautious and to verify information from official sources before accepting it.
