Foreigner falls to death trying to evade inspection


JOHOR BARU: A foreigner’s attempt to evade immigration inspection at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex here ended tragically when he fell to his death.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the man, who is a Sri Lankan national, was believed to have jumped from a pedestrian bridge connecting BSI and Johor Baru Sentral to avoid being checked by Immigration officers.

“At about 4.48pm on Thursday, we were alerted by the public about a man who had fallen from the pedestrian bridge,” he said in a statement.

ACP Raub added that the man, who worked as a factory operator, had landed on a car that was passing by the area under the pedestrian bridge.

“The man was later pronounced dead by an assistant medical officer from Sultanah Aminah Hospital who was dispatched to the scene,” he said.

According to ACP Raub, there were no criminal elements found in the incident and the case had been classified as a sudden death.

He added that the victim’s body has been taken to the hospital for an autopsy.

Earlier on Thursday, social media was abuzz after photos and videos related to the incident went viral.
