‘Ion therapy’ operations suspended in Rembau pending probe

REMBAU: Operators of a well in Ulu Sepri here, which reportedly provides ion therapy for various ailments, have been advised to temporarily halt operations until the Health Ministry completes its investigation.

Rembau district officer Mohd Zamri Mohd Esa said the area’s Land and District Office, along with the Negri Sembilan Water Regulatory Body (BKSA), had conduct an inspection on Tuesday.

“Following our visit, BKSA issued a directive requiring the operators to apply for a licence under the Water Act 1920 (amended Water Act 2007), as they were abstracting river water without a licence.

“They now have 14 days to submit their application to the Negri Sembilan BKSA, and we will continue our monitoring efforts,” he told reporters here yesterday.

He added that the operators were advised to suspend their operations during the probe.

Mohd Zamri said the site was gaining popularity and the operators had even set up tents.

Investigations have so far revealed that the location is on customary land, designated for agricultural use.

Recently, social media posts went viral, suggesting that water from the well in Rembau offers health benefits for various conditions, including stroke, through a specialised treatment technology.

In response, the Health Ministry said it was taking the issue seriously.

Mohd Zamri said while he welcomed efforts to develop tourism products or activities in the district, they must adhere to regulations set by the authorities.

Meanwhile, Bernama, during a visit to the area, which has reportedly been drawing crowds for the past three months, observed that visitors were still flocking to the location as of 4pm yesterday.
