KOTA BARU: A Malaysian female artist is among six Malaysian citizens arrested in Sungai Golok, Thailand, on Friday for allegedly possessing yaba pills, a type of methamphetamine commonly known as "pil kuda".
According to Harian Metro, the six individuals, aged between 25 and 32, were detained at approximately 6am (Malaysian time) on Friday (Nov 1) in a hotel room following an evening of entertainment. Thai police reportedly seized around 6,000 yaba pills during the raid.
It is understood that two of the detained Malaysians had entered Thailand through an illegal entry point, while the remaining four entered via the Rantau Panjang Immigration, Customs, Quarantine, and Security Complex (ICQS).
The group is said to have gathered at the hotel to celebrate the Deepavali public holiday.
"Two additional men, whose identities are unknown, managed to flee the scene during the police raid," a source said, adding that the detained woman is a well-known artist from Kelantan.
All those detained will be taken to the Narathiwat Court, where they will face remand proceedings.
The Royal Malaysia Police in Kelantan has been informed of the arrests involving the six Malaysians.
