KOTA KINABALU: Sabah will play host again to the Asia Triathlon Cup today following its successful debut last year.
The prestigious event, sponsored by the state’s Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry, has become a highlight of Asia’s elite triathlon calendar, reinforcing Sabah’s reputation as a premier sports tourism destination.The competition will take place at Tanjung Aru Beach, featuring 63 elite athletes from 13 countries, including Japan, Australia, the United States, Britain and South-East Asian nations.
Participants will compete in swimming, cycling and running events, with 43 men and 20 women in the elite category pushing their limits in this intense race.“The Asia Triathlon Cup is more than just a race; it’s an opportunity to showcase Sabah’s natural beauty, culture and hospitality.
“We are thrilled to welcome back this world-class event and further establish Kota Kinabalu as a hub for sports tourism,” said Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew.She said the scenic course, set against the backdrop of the South China Sea and iconic landmarks of Kota Kinabalu, promises a memorable experience for participants and spectators alike.
