27 women held in raid at illegal nightspot

KUALA LUMPUR: Twenty-seven women and a local man were detained in a raid at an unlicensed entertainment centre at Jalan Pasar Baharu Pudu here yesterday.

During the 5.40pm operation, 16 Vietnamese and 11 Chinese women were attending to customers when the raid under #KLStrikeForce Op Noda occurred, said Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa.

Some of those detained had attempted to flee through an escape hatch in the bathroom that led to several store rooms, according to Bernama.

Rusdi said the raid was conducted by personnel from the Anti-Vice, Gambling and Secret Societies Division (D7) of the Kuala Lumpur Police Contingent Headquarters and the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters.

The detained local man is believed to have been the outlet’s caretaker. Authorities also arrested an Indonesian male worker.

“These premises operated covertly and tried to avoid detection by keeping the front door closed and allowing only regular patrons to enter through the back entrance. But police foiled this tactic,” he said in a statement.

Police also carried out inspections on 53 locals comprising 47 men and six women, aged between 34 and 44, believed to have been their customers.

All detainees, aged between 24 and 67, were taken to the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters for documentation purposes.
