Bid to moo-ve cattle from Thailand thwarted


PASIR MAS: An attempt to smuggle cattle from Thailand was foiled after the authorities intercepted a lorry carrying 13 cows worth more than RM107,000 in Kampung Bukit Tandak, near here.

A team from Battalion 8 of the General Operations Force’s (PGA) Southeast Brigade intercepted the lorry and detained two males aged 22 and 42, said commander SAC Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid.

The cows, weighing 7,000 kilogrammes, are believed to have been smuggled from Thailand and are estimated to be valued at RM107,270, Bernama reported.

“During a patrol under Ops Taring Wawasan Kelantan at 12.45pm, the team stopped the lorry which had been carrying 13 cows. The men did not have valid documents for the cattle.

“Both suspects are believed to have been hired as couriers to smuggle the cattle,” he said, reported Bernama.

The suspects and the seized items were taken to the Rantau Panjang police station for further action.
