BUTTERWORTH: The family of a teenager who died from electrocution while charging his phone on an express bus last Friday (Nov 1) has accepted their loss, Sinar Harian reported.
Though saddened and shocked, the victim’s grandmother, Salmiah Humzah, 82, chooses not to dwell on the tragedy and sees her grandson Mohamad Nur Asymawi Jasmadi’s passing, at age 18, as part of fate’s design.
“Asymawi and his three younger siblings had lived with me since childhood due to their father’s health issues.
“It’s alright... I accept this as Allah’s will,” she told reporters at her home in Kampung Mesra Bagan Lalang on Sunday (Nov 3).
Salmiah explained that she hadn’t known Asymawi’s reason for going to Kuala Lumpur and was shocked when police contacted her to report the incident.
“Earlier, he mentioned wanting to go on a long journey, but I thought he was joking because he was always so friendly and playful,” she said.
“Not long after, the police contacted another grandson (Asymawi’s cousin) to inform us that Asymawi had passed away due to an electric shock on the bus.”
On Saturday, Sinar Harian reported that a teenager died from an electric shock while charging his phone using a socket on an express bus at the Penang Sentral Bus Terminal in Butterworth around 7.40pm on Friday.
Seberang Perai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Abdul Rahman said that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, with injuries found on his left hand.
It was reported that Mohamad Nur Asymawi’s remains were laid to rest at the Sungai Puyu Islamic Cemetery after the Asar prayers on Saturday.
