LARUT: All 10 divisions of Bersatu, which were suspended, have been allowed to hold their annual meetings and elect the party’s leadership in December, says Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin (pic).
The Bersatu secretary-general said branches of the suspended divisions can hold their meetings from Nov 7.
“We have postponed election at these divisions to avoid any unwanted incident that can affect the entire party election,” he told reporters after officiating the Larut Bersatu division meeting at the Sungai Bayor multipurpose hall yesterday.
Earlier, Bersatu election committee chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azim Mohd Zabidi confirmed that 10 division committees were suspended.
This resulted in members of the divisions not being able to vote to elect three vice-presidents and 20 supreme council members.
Bersatu held its polls yesterday and the results are expected to be known today at the earliest.
While reasons for the suspension were unclear, Abdul Azim was reported to have said there were allegations which the party’s headquarters were investigating, including claims that a division had submitted a false report.
The 10 divisions are Jasin, Tapah, Teluk Intan, Machang, Bukit Mertajam, Bukit Bendera, Tanjong, Cameron Highlands, Hulu Langat and Kota Melaka.
The polls saw Bersatu’s top two posts uncontested, with Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin retained as president while Hamzah will fill the position of deputy president.
Six candidates vied to fill the three vice-president posts.
Two-term Gombak Setia assemblyman Muhammad Hilman Idham is the new Armada chief while the deputy chief post was won by Muhammad Faiz Rahmad.
Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin and Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi are the new Srikandi chief and deputy chief respectively.
