KUALA LUMPUR: Over 1,500 cyber attacks targeted ministries' infrastructure systems this year, according to the Prime Minister's Department (pic).
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa assured that all 1,547 attacks, as of September, were successfully detected and addressed.
The government managed to detect and counter all cyber threats through continuous monitoring and immediate action by the National Cyber Security Agency (Nacsa), National Security Council (NSC) and Prime Minister's Department.
To ensure the security and resilience of the government's cyber infrastructure, the National Cyber Coordination and Command Centre (NC4) will continue to provide best practice implementation recommendations to all agencies.
This includes equipping agencies with the most up-to-date antivirus software and cybersecurity measures.
Dr Zaliha stated this in a written parliamentary reply dated Oct 29.
NC4 will also assist in developing and implementing a service continuity plan in case any system is compromised.
NC4 plans to implement Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and conduct frequent reviews of agencies' network segmentation to control potential security threats from spreading throughout the agencies' networks.
Statistics from Nacsa and NSC reveal that government agencies faced 1,633 cyber attacks last year, a notable decrease from the 4,378 attacks recorded in 2022.
The ministry's response was to a question from Datuk Suhaimi Nasir (Barisan–Libaran) about the number of cyber attacks on ministry infrastructure detected from 2022 to 2024 and whether current security measures were sufficient to repel such attacks.
