WHILE saving may not seem exciting, it is crucial for building a secure future, ensuring financial stability, achieving long-term goals, and preparing for unexpected challenges.

To promote a culture of saving, the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) launched its 2024 SSPN Savings Month (BMS) programme, establishing SSPN Savings as the top choice for Malaysians seeking financial security and educational planning.

BMS was held in conjunction with World Savings Day, celebrated annually on Oct 31, and marks the seventh consecutive year of the programme since its inception in 2018.

With the theme “Fantasi” and the tagline “Jom Jadi Superhero Anak Anda,” BMS 2024 encouraged children to unleash their imaginations and explore new experiences, aligning with PTPTN's motto, “Your Opportunity to Succeed.”

The event garnered significant support from attendees, offering engaging activities for families, including the SSPN colouring contest, SSPN Got Talent, fancy dress competitions, and Jenga family challenges.

Excitement filled the air with special appearances by popular characters like P&T SSPN, Didi and Friends, and celebrity guests. Visitors also had the opportunity to obtain exclusive BMS savings containers and souvenirs by contributing to SSPN Savings.

Reflecting on the programme's success, PTPTN chairman Datuk Seri Norliza Abdul Rahim said that for over two decades, SSPN Savings has remained a highly competitive savings product and a primary choice for parents planning for their children’s education.

“As of Sept 30, 2024, SSPN Savings has reached RM19bil in deposits across 6.61mil accounts. With strong customer support, I am confident PTPTN will achieve its 2024 BMS deposit target of RM220 mil,” she added.

Further support for educational savings was highlighted in the recent 2025 Budget, with an extension of individual tax relief on net SSPN savings for another three years until 2027.

“This extension underscores government commitment to fostering early financial planning for higher education,” said Norliza, calling it a timely opportunity for parents to save for their children’s futures.

During the BMS 2024 closing ceremony, PTPTN awarded appreciation certificates to BMS 2024 strategic partners and presented prizes to the WOW winners SSPN Draw 2024 Merdeka Series and SSPN Got Talent Competition.

To mark SSPN’s 20th anniversary, PTPTN also launched a new SSPN Savings song, “Terbang Tinggi”, symbolising its dedication to cultivating a savings culture.

SSPN Savings provides various benefits, including income tax relief of up to RM8,000 annually, takaful protection, competitive dividends, a matching grant of up to RM10,000 for eligible families, Shariah compliance, and government-guaranteed savings, reinforcing PTPTN's commitment to financial security and education planning for Malaysians.
