Langkawi MP proposes to turn GISB hotel into deviant teachings museum

KUALA LUMPUR: Langkawi MP Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah has suggested converting a hotel owned by Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISB) on the island into a museum for deviant teachings.

"There is a hotel in Langkawi owned by GISB. If no other places can be turned into a museum for deviant teachings, I propose the Religious Affairs Minister convert this hotel into one.

"It can serve as a reference for people, especially the young," he said while debating the Supply Bill 2025 in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (Nov 5).

R.S.N. Rayer (PH-Jelutong) asked Suhaimi to clarify if he meant deviant religions or teachings.

Suhaimi responded that he did not know how to argue with Rayer on the difference.

"Without teachings, there is no religion," Suhaimi said.

He then clarified he was referring to deviant teachings. Rayer reminded him that the term "deviant religions" might not be correct, stating that teachings, not religions, may be deviant.

On Sept 11, during Op Global, police raided 20 charity homes in Selangor and Negri Sembilan linked to GISB over alleged child and religious exploitation activities.

Since the operation began, more than 300 individuals, including GISB's top management, have been arrested, and 572 victims have been rescued.

Several states have declared GISB teachings as deviant.
