PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner never said that RM94mil was found in a former minister’s home during an investigation, according to the graft buster.
It denied the allegation by Pendang Perikatan Nasional MP Datuk Awang Hashim in the Dewan Rakyat that such a sum was found in the ex-minister’s house.
“While the MACC respects the right of MPs to voice their views freely in Parliament, it is imperative that their statements are made based on facts and evidence to avoid confusion.
“No statement had been made by the Commission or the chief commissioner regarding the discovery of the amount of money in the said former minister’s home,” it said in a statement yesterday. This came after a commotion in the Dewan Rakyat following Awang’s comments on the matter earlier yesterday.
During the debate on Budget 2025, Awang had asked about the status of the MACC probe into the former human resources minister.
RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) demanded that Awang name the minister in question and challenged him to repeat his statement outside the House.
Deputy Speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor asked Awang to explain the details of his statement.
Awang replied that DAP MPs get upset when their leaders are criticised.
“They think DAP leaders are as pure as angels,” he added.
Uproar ensued and Ramli was forced to turn off the MPs’ microphones.
“I will strictly stick to 37(2) of the Standing Orders. If I get to send anyone out, I will do it,” he warned.
Rayer asked Awang to retract his remarks on DAP leaders.
“Everyone makes allegations. There are parts of his debate such as the constructive criticisms which we can accept,” he said.
Ramli told the MPs who are dissatisfied with the issue to file a motion for further action.
In April last year, graft investigators went to the house of the then human resources minister V. Sivakumar as part of an ongoing probe on a case involving the recruitment of foreign workers.
