KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has expressed solidarity with the Philippines and extended humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering caused by Tropical Storm Kristine, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In a Facebook post Monday (Nov 4), Anwar reflected that a tragedy of such magnitude reminds all stakeholders of the importance of unity and close regional cooperation.

“To President Bongbong (Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr) and the people of the Philippines, I extend my condolences. Malaysia stands firmly with the Philippines and will never ignore its neighbours, especially in times of distress and tragedy.

“While we mobilise immediate assistance, we also recognise the need to contribute to long-term recovery and reconstruction initiatives,” he wrote.

Anwar also mentioned that he had received a phone call from Marcos, whom he considers a close friend, and expressed Malaysia's full support for the republic, which is currently grappling with the storm's aftermath.

The Prime Minister reiterated his commitment to enhanced collaboration with the Philippines to improve disaster planning and response, aiming not only to strengthen bilateral ties but also to fortify the region's resilience.

On Oct 27, a Royal Malaysian Air Force EC 725 AP helicopter from Squadron No. 5 at Labuan Air Base was deployed on a Humanitarian and Disaster Relief Mission (HADR) to deliver essential supplies to affected areas in the Philippines. – Bernama
