MELAKA: Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) has achieved remarkable success in recording a 97.7% graduate employability rate last year, an increase from 96.4% in 2022, says its vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Ts Dr Massila Kamalrudin.
She said the university has also managed to produce highly employable graduates with "premium" salaries, in line with the aspirations of the Higher Education Ministry and national development goals.
“This outstanding achievement places UTeM as a leader within the Malaysian Technical Universities Network (MTUN) and positions the university fifth among the top 20 public universities in Malaysia,” she said in a curtain-raiser statement in conjunction with the 20th UTeM Convocation ceremony, which will take place here from Nov 9 to Nov 11.
Massila noted that UTeM continues to align with the national vision for graduates with premium salaries through various comprehensive initiatives that have been successfully implemented over the years.
“In terms of premium salaries, UTeM has seen impressive growth, with 7.6% of UTeM graduates earning premium salaries in 2022, which rose to 8.6% in 2023.
"Based on current trends, we expect this upward trajectory to continue, with further growth in the percentage of graduates earning premium salaries in 2024,” she said on Tues (Nov 5).
Massila said UTeM has become a top destination for students from SPM, STPM, Matriculation, and diploma backgrounds seeking to pursue technical education.
“The number of student registrations at UTeM has shown consistent growth over the past two years, with 474 diploma students and 3116 undergraduates enrolled in 2023 and this number is set to rise further in 2024, with diploma enrolments increasing by 28% to 606 students and undergraduate enrolments growing by 14% to 545 students,” she said, adding that UTeM’s overall student enrolment has continued to rise, reaching 16,986 students in 2022, 18,034 students in 2023 and 18,770 students for this year.
Massila said UTeM has continued to achieve excellence on both the national and global stages, notably, the university was named the Best Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) University in the country.
