AG halts gift fundraiser for him

KUALA LUMPUR: The monetary contribution to buy a retirement gift for Attorney General Tan Sri Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh (pic), who is leaving the chambers to be appointed as a Federal Court judge, has been halted on the order of the AG himself.

“Although this donation drive was well-intentioned, the AG has requested for it to be discontinued,” read a statement issued by the AG’s Chambers (AGC) yesterday.

The statement was issued in response to the donations allegedly being sought from deputy public prosecutors to honour the retiring AG.

The matter went viral on Telegram and other social media platforms after the AGC personnel were allegedly asked to make monetary contributions to purchase a retirement gift for Ahmad Terrirudin in recognition of his many contributions to the prosecution division. The viral message also said the donations should be made according to the donors’ grade, namely Turus (RM500), Jusa A (RM400), Jusa B (RM300) and Jusa C (RM200), as well as L44 (RM30) and L41 (RM20), according to Bernama.

It is learnt that the donation drive was also organised in celebration of Ahmad Terrirudin’s impending appointment as a Federal Court judge. He is set to leave the AGC on Nov 11.

Ahmad Terrirudin, 56, was appointed as the AG on Sept 6 last year, succeeding Tan Sri Idrus Harun, whose contractual appointment ended on Sept 5, 2023.

Ahmad Terrirudin has an illustrious career in the legal and judicial services.

He began his career as a legal (judicial) officer at the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

He served as a special officer to Chief Justice Tun Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim in 2003. In 2007, he was appointed as a Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court judge.

He also once held the position of chairman of the Kuala Lumpur and Penang Industrial courts.

He was the Deputy Head of Civil Division III, Civil Division, Attorney General’s Chambers in 2017 and served as Kedah State Legal Adviser in 2019. He was previously the Chief Registrar of the Federal Court before being appointed the Solicitor-General on March 25, 2022.
